It’s always a special moment bringing to life our couples’ weddings but even more so when it’s a couple we’ve been working with for years. Roxy & Greg first met with us back in 2019 with dreams of getting married in April 2020 here in the Hunter Valley and little more than the venue booked. They told us all about their beautiful and hilarious love story and we fell in love with them too!
Unfortunately like so many couples, the COVID-19 outbreak dashed their dreams of an April 2020 wedding but we were there every step of the way to reschedule their big day as quickly as painlessly as possible while negotiating with suppliers to retain as much of their budget as we could. The decision was made to postpone 1 full year to April 2021 and the countdown was on again.
A lot can happen in a year – including a huge move for Roxy & Greg from Newcastle to Mackay for work. Luckily with the help of technology, we could be the couple’s eyes and ears here in the Hunter, with much of the remaining planning taking place over the phone or via video chat. The ideal plan was for the whole wedding to take place at the gorgeous Roscrea Homestead but without an adequate wet weather backup, we knew we needed to find a plan B venue that still fit their vision. Charlotte set the couple’s minds at ease by video chatting with them from the plan B venue while creating the site plan and working out all the finer details. With 2 sets of runsheets and 2 sets of site plans, we were ready for anything.
Fortunately, the weather was absolutely perfect on their big day and the wedding of Mr & Mrs Richardson went off with only minor adjustments due to the heavy rain of March. The lawn where we originally planned out their ceremony couldn’t be mowed due to the extensive rain, so we worked through other spots on the gorgeous property until the perfect plan C was in place. Charlotte moved and set up all the furniture to the final location and put her beautiful handwriting to good use writing all of the chalkboard signs scattered throughout.
From the very beginning of their wedding day, you could tell these lovers were going to have fun with it! Roxy was singing and dancing with her family and friends while getting ready, making for some fantastic photos and memories. Technology came into play again as one of Roxy’s bridesmaids couldn’t make it over from England so video chatted throughout the day. She got to see Roxy getting ready, about to walk down the aisle and the entire ceremony (cue tears from the whole bridal party), helping the day feel a little more complete when their loved one was so far away.
Finally it was Greg’s turn to see his Bride as she walked down the aisle arm in arm with Dad. He gave the cutest little wave, brimming with excitement at the sight of his love. With picture-perfect hair and makeup and a stunning leafy patterned lace gown from Final Touch Bridal, she was glowing with happiness and after their long wait, everyone was over the moon for the couple.
The full moonlight combined with strings of festoon lights strung across the lawn set the scene for the beautiful and intimate reception ahead. Guests partied on as it rose about the surrounding mountain ranges, a gorgeous backdrop for the romantic and hilarious evening. Roxy told their love story in detail, including the fun fact that at first she thought Greg was gay. Between that, Greg’s numerous pop culture references, Roxy singing and putting everyone in stitches saying “I can’t wait to push little Greg’s out of my vagina”, it’s safe to say their personalities shone in the speeches. Top it off with a night of dancing and a fun, quirky first dance and Mr & Mrs Richardson well and truly left their mark!
The day turned out beautifully and after two years of planning with the couple it was so heart-warming to see them finally joined as one. We wish Mr & Mrs Richardson all the happiness for the future and can’t wait to see what adventure life takes them on together next.
