The moment we met high school sweethearts Gav and Steph, we knew they were special. Like so many before them, Gav and Steph had to postpone their special day due to COVID-19, but they didn’t let it take away from how special their moment would finally be. Yes, there were some vendor and date changes, but through it all they stuck together and we helped them pull off their magical day, just as they’d imagined it a hundred times before. Steph even included a countdown at the end of every email she sent to us, until on the 21st of January, it read ‘1 Day to wedding’.
Gavin awaited his bride at the top of the aisle, surrounded by the breathtaking views of Blacksmiths Beach, with an incredible timepiece clipped into his vest. As the bridal processional began, their black Lab, Ollie, lead the way as ring bearer (his barks of approval throughout the ceremony were proof he took his doggy wedding duties very seriously) before Steph made her way towards her best friend, ready to become Mrs Newby. Their ceremony was intimate in a way so perfectly tailored to their connection, with references to all their shared loves; DC, LEGO, Big Bang Theory – everything that made them, them. Steph even paralleled Gav to the Superheroes he loves, and there was no doubt they share an incredible bond. As they were announced husband and wife, the bridal party released a flutter of butterflies. An incredibly romantic gesture, some of them even came to rest on Steph’s bouquet.
After an afternoon stroll on the warm sand of the beach, Gav and Steph made their way to their reception at Swansea-Belmont Surf Life Saving Club, where Steph’s brother and his partner co-MCed an incredible evening of love and laughter. With poster signs for the crowd to ‘aww’ and ‘laugh’ in all the right places, and an epic wedding hashtag #newbyweds, there was no doubt every guest was in for a treat.
Personalising your wedding is one of the best ways to ensure an unforgettable night and Gav and Steph made sure they would always remember those special moments that were so perfectly them. Their bridal party entered to touching sentiments from the newlyweds all about how special they are and why they’re so valued, and their favours were donations to Dementia Australia. Nothing was as personal as the iconic dance off between the entire bridal party to Macklemore’s “Dance Off”.
